Discover figures from history, special  displays, craft activities, and an exclusive scavenger hunt. Join us for a night of fun for the  whole family! Nighttime at the Museum is appropriate for children of all ages and the young at  heart. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite costumes and bring flashlights.  The Don Sazon food truck and Life Raft Treats will be on site for purchase. Space is limited. Campers get down and dirty  exploring a marsh ecosystem and tracking animals along the trail while learning about  archaeology, life in a marsh, Native Americans, and animals. Nature Trailer Summer Camps are  for ages 5 – 10 and include crafts, activities, and admission to the Dill Sanctuary from 9 am  through 12 pm.  Reservations required. Enjoy the rare  opportunity to view Eliza’s gown and some of her personal belongings. Kid Tours is a series  designed to highlight artifacts from our collection that have fascinated children for years. Kid  Tours meet every Wednesday during the months of June and July at 3:30 pm. This program  includes a tour highlighting the weekly theme and an engaging craft project or educational  activity.  FREE for Members and FREE with admission to The Charleston Museum.  Fossil Friday with the Natural History Department  June 9th, 3:30 – 4:30 pm  Join Matthew Gibson, Curator of Natural History, or Jessie Peragine, Natural History Curatorial  Assistant, on Fridays from 3:30 – 4:30 PM in the Bunting Natural History Gallery lab. They will be  on hand to share projects currently being worked on and to help identify your fossil finds.  FREE for Members and FREE with admission to The Charleston Museum.  Sweetgrass Basket Weaving Workshop with Local Artisan Sarah Edwards-Hammond June 10th, 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  Join local artisan Sarah Edwards-Hammond for in-depth instruction on sweetgrass  basketry which has been an integral part of the Lowcountry’s Gullah Geechee  community since the 17th century. Edwards-Hammond comes from a long line of basket  makers and has passed down the tradition to her family and others in the community.  She will share a brief history of the artisanal craft of basket making. Participants will  then spend the remainder of the class making their own basket guided by Edwards Hammond. Come learn about an extraordinary craft that has been a staple of culture,  art, and history in Charleston for centuries. All materials and instruction will be provided.  Space is limited. To commemorate this milestone, join us for a special highlight exhibit  showcasing 250 years of the Museum’s collection.  On June 14, 2023 Museum Members will have the exclusive opportunity to  tour America’s First Museum: 250 Years of Collecting, Preserving, and Educating Part  2 before it opens to the public. See what it takes to create a special exhibition from start  to finish! Guests will get a behind-the-scenes look at the Museum workroom as the  curators finish their final touches on Part 2 of this year-long exhibit. Then make your  way to the 250th highlights exhibit in the Historic Textiles Gallery and be the first to see  this once in a lifetime creation. America’s First Museum: 250 Years of Collecting, Preserving and Educating, Part 2 opens to the public   June 17th, 2023: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm   Commemorating two and a half centuries since its founding and spanning nearly 4.6 billion  years of history, we are pleased to present America’s First Museum: 250 Years of Collecting,  Preserving, and Educating in the Historic Textiles Gallery. This year-long exhibit will feature a  wide array of objects that tell the story of this impressive institution and its remarkable  collections.  Part two will showcase a church pew made by enslaved hands measuring 20 feet in length,  centuries old Archaic carved bone pins, a skull from the largest known flying bird and a couture  Fortuny gown.
